South Africa is a member country of the Hague Convention and as such, an Apostille Certificate is required before legal SA documents may be used abroad. Under this Convention, member countries agree to facilitate the exchange and verification of documents; an apostille certification will be required for all member countries of the Hague Convention.

Before obtaining an Apostille Certificate for South African documents, you’ll need to verify that the country that will be receiving the document is a signatory to the Apostille Convention

DUE TO THE NATIONAL LOCKDOWN IN SOUTH AFRICA FROM 27 MARCH UNTIL 1 MAY (AND SYSTEM CRASH DURING LOCKDOWN) THERE IS A SIGNIFICANT BACKLOG AT THE CRC, RESULTING IN NEW APPLICATIONS HAVING A WAITING PERIOD OF 30 TO 40 WORKING DAYS.

We have been in constant communication with the CRC in Pretoria and unfortunately the situation has not changed.  Only once this massive backlog has been caught up will things revert back to normal.
